Quarter, Half, or Whole Cow: Which Wagyu Bulk Order Is Right for You?

Aug 18, 2026

If you've ever thought about stocking your freezer with a full year of Wagyu instead of ordering steak by steak, this is for you. Here's how our quarter, half, and whole cow portions work, and how to figure out which size fits your life.

Quick heads up: these run through a waitlist

Bulk portions are limited by our harvest schedule, so they're not always available on demand. You'll reach out to us first (info@longhillwagyu.com), we'll get you on the schedule, and go from there - full process is below.

The three options, at a glance

So which size is actually right for you?

Think in terms of freezer space and how many people you're feeding.

  • Quarter cow: good fit for a smaller household, or anyone testing out bulk buying for the first time. You'll want roughly 5–7 cubic feet of freezer space.
  • Half cow: the sweet spot for most families. Plan on 10 cubic feet.
  • Whole cow: for a big household, or a few families splitting it together. You're looking at ~20+ cubic feet, so a dedicated chest freezer is basically mandatory here.

Rule of thumb across the board: budget about 1 cubic foot of freezer space for every 25-30 lbs of meat, and give yourself a little extra room beyond the math so things stay organized.

What's actually in the box

Every portion is a real mix, not just steaks. Think ribeyes, filets, and strips alongside roasts, short ribs, brisket, ground beef, and a few cuts most people never get to try (osso buco, picanha, skirt steak). Whole cow portions come with a bigger variety, plus options like tongue, oxtail or cheeks if you want them.

Full cut lists are on each product page (linked above), since they vary a bit by size.

How delivery actually works

This is a lot more meat than a normal order, so it works a little differently depending on where you are.

  • Local to Houston, San Antonio, or Austin? We can coordinate a meetup, or you're welcome to come out to the ranch, pick up your order, and meet the cows.
  • Everywhere else across the US: we ship it in stages over a few weeks, using the same 2-day air and dry ice method as our regular orders. Spacing it out is intentional, it protects you from losing a huge order to a single FedEx delay.

How the ordering process actually works

Since these are processed in limited batches, here's what happens step by step:

  1. You reach out to us through the product page or a quick email, whichever's easiest.
  2. We give you a timeline for when your portion will actually be ready.
  3. We send an invoice for a 50% deposit to lock in your spot.
  4. Once your beef is ready to ship, we send a final invoice for the remaining 50%, plus shipping.

No guessing on timing, and no surprise charges at the end, you'll know exactly what's coming and when.

Once your freezer's stocked, you're set for months incredible beef without reordering every other week. Reach out with any questions at info@longhillwagyu.com
