Is Long Hill Wagyu Legit? Our Fullblood Certification, Reviews, and What Actually Sets Us Apart
If you're reading this before placing your first order, you're doing exactly what we'd do too. You're about to spend real money on a box of frozen beef from a ranch in small town Texas you've probably never heard of. That's a fair thing to want answered before you hit buy.
So here's a straight answer - what “Fullblood Wagyu” actually means, how we back it up, and what we think actually sets us apart. Including a few things we don't do.
But First, Your Cheatsheet:
- Ranch is located in Luling, Texas
- 100% Fullblood Japanese Black Wagyu
- Direct-to-consumer sales with nationwide shipping, and local delivery to Austin / San Antonio
- American Wagyu Association and Australian Wagyu Association registered herd
- DNA and pedigree documentation
What “Fullblood” Wagyu actually means
“Wagyu” on a label doesn't tell you as much as you might think. Most Wagyu sold in the U.S. (including a lot of what's marketed as “American Wagyu”) comes from cattle that are only partly Wagyu, crossed with Angus or other breeds. That's a normal, legitimate practice, and it is still good beef. It's just a different animal than what we raise.
Fullblood means 100% Wagyu genetics - no crossbreeding, period. Every animal we raise is registered with the American Wagyu Association or Australian Wagyu Association, which means rigorous DNA testing and pedigree documentation verifying the genetics of each and every cow. You don’t have to go far in our pedigrees to trace back to the original few Wagyu cattle documented in Japan.
Who's already trusting Long Hill Wagyu
We're a small operation… one ranch, still run by the family who started it. Culinary markets like Pullman Market and restaurants such as Favorite Neighbor and Michelin-stared Mixtli have already put Long Hill Wagyu on their menus, which means professional kitchens that could source from anywhere are choosing to source from us.
On the direct-to-consumer side, we've been shipping nationwide long enough to have the process dialed in - from how a box is packed to how it's timed in transit - so your order isn't a first attempt. What actually sets us apart
• Family owned and operated. Long Hill Wagyu is still a working family ranch, not a name licensed onto someone else's supply chain.
• Female-founded. And the woman who started Long Hill Wagyu still runs it today.
• 100% Fullblood, raised in Texas. Not a cross, not a blend… Fullblood Wagyu genetics from a single Texas herd.
• Regenerative ranching, and animals first. Land management and humane treatment come before yield, every time.
• No hormones, no steroids, no unnecessary antibiotics, ever.
• Frozen shipping, done properly. Every order goes out with gel packs or dry ice via two-day air, arriving fully frozen or slightly thawed is normal, and both are safe to refrigerate or refreeze.
What we're not
We're not the biggest Wagyu operation out there, and we're not trying to be yet. We're not running flash sales, we're not buying reviews, and we're not going to tell you Fullblood tastes twice as good as a cross if you're already happy with what you've got. For a lot of people it won't matter enough to justify the price difference, and that's a completely fine place to land.
If it does matter to you, if you want to taste what 100% Wagyu genetics actually makes. that's what we're here for.
